According to the USDA, one in five students is experiencing food insecurity right now, which means they do not know where their next meal will come from. Juliet Gray’s Family Meal aims to change that statistic, one kitchen at a time.

One of the driving forces behind Juliet’s creative projects is that she addresses civic issues through an artistic lens. Juliet’s newest program, called “Family Meal,” addresses food insecurity in the next generation.

Family Meal is a program in two parts:

Part one is a brand new online cooking show geared toward the next generation and hosted by Guest Check Chef Grayson Samuels alongside cooking novice Lilah Guaragna. Watch this space for the upcoming pilot episode, debuting this summer of 2025!

Part two is that Family Meal partners with after school and youth programs, like Fearless Young Artists in Harlem in order to get the recipe from the episode, ingredients, and equipment to make it into the hands of students so they can make the meal themselves for a family of four.

For Family Meal, we are currently looking for contributors and connectors.

Contributors: We are ready to go to get bags of food and equipment to make the recipe into the hands of students. A $15 donation means we can buy a heavy-bottomed pot for a kid to make the meal for a family of four. A $100 donation gets the food and equipment for one family. At $1,000, you can help us rent the studio for a day to film our next episode. For $40,000, we can get the food to 1,600 people. If we get equipment or food donated, that number can grow. And that is not counting all of the kids who might be inspired to try to make the recipe on their own.

Email Juliet if you or anyone you know is ready to be a part of the change we need.

Connectors: We are looking for people who can connect Juliet to others, like those who might work for a grocery or food delivery service, or if you know someone who would be able to donate mixing bowls, spices, spoons, measuring cups, or other kitchen equipment.

We already have youth organizations who will partner with us to get the food into the hands of students. And are looking for more.

We are ready, we just need help. If you would like to get involved, email Juliet today!
